Expressive Line is defined as “A kind of line that seems to
spring directly from the artist's emotions or feelings--loose, gestural, and
energetic--epitomized by curvilinear forms.” To show the use of expressive line
I chose to do a piece by Vincent Van Gough. The painting is called Wheat Field
with Cypresses and was created in 1889. According to the text book Van Gough’s paintings
are known as one of the most personally expressive works of art. The emotion of
Van Gough is clearly displayed in this work. Van Gough uses lines to show color
and excitement, I noticed this primarily because the use of color in the sky.
